About this item

Sapphires are a precious gemstone and a lifelong investment. These genuine blue Sapphire huggie earrings feature a 5 x 3 Sapphire and 6 diamonds in each earring and are set in 14k yellow gold. They are comfortable to wear day and night and can be worn in your main earring hole or as an accompaniment to another pair of earrings in a second hole. Known as the stone of wisdom and serenity, Sapphire, September's birthstone is believed to calm the mind and believed to be good for attracting abundance, blessings, and prosperity. Virgos and Libras span the month of September. It has been used by some for protection from evil and harm. Sapphires has a connection to romance and wisdom. Princess Diana chose a Sapphire for her engagement ring that has since been passed down to Princess Kate. Luxurious and stunning, Sapphires are the second hardest naturally occurring mineral known to man. These earrings do not come with a certificate.

What is the history of the Sapphire gemstone?

The name Sapphire is derived from the Latin "saphirus" and the Greek "sapheiros" both of which mean blue. Although Sapphires come in many other colors, blue is the most popular and most highly prized variant of the mineral corundum. Sapphire was also one of the twelve precious stones incorporated into the breastplate of the High Priest of Israel.

What was the inspiration behind this design?

The Sapphire birthstone was originally worn by ancient Greeks and the Greek God Apollo. Having recently visited Greece we were excited to incorporate the Sapphire precious gemstone into this lovely and most popular huggie design.

Sapphire Care and Cleaning Guide:

Firstly, avoid showering while wearing the Sapphire earrings. The chemicals in hair care products and dirt and oil from your hair can easily accumulate on the earrings. Never wear your Sapphire jewelry in the swimming pool, as the harsh chemicals may damage the piece. The best way to clean your Sapphires is with a soft bristle brush and mild soap with warm water. Soak your Sapphires for a few minutes in a solution of warm water and mild soap. Use a soft brush to clean around the setting and restore the gem's luster. Rinse the earrings in a fresh bowl of water. Wipe with a soft cloth and dry for a few hours before storing or wearing. Ultrasonic cleaners or steam cleaners may be used but are not necessary to clean your Sapphire gemstones.
