How Is Decaffeinated Coffee Made?

To make decaffeinated coffee like this medium roast ground coffee for Dunkin' Donuts, coffee beans are steamed for half an hour and then rinsed with solvents that dissolve the caffeine from the beans. The moist green coffee beans are cleaned with water, steamed again and rinsed again with solvents. Usually, this process is followed several times until the coffee beans have reached the desired level of caffeine.
