HARIBO Gold Bears History
Hans Riegel completed training as a confectioner when he had finished school. He worked for several factories to gain experience. But by 1920, Hans decided to go out and start a company of his own. He began by purchasing a house in Bergstrasse in Kessenich and set up the first factory there. The starting capital goods he had was simply a sack of sugar, a marble block, a stool, a brick oven, a copper kettle and a roller. Here in a little backyard laundry-kitchen began the history of the now world-famous company. On December 13, 1920, Hans entered the company name Haribo in the trade registry of the city of Bonn. Did you know Haribo is actually an acronym of HAns RIegel BOnn. A year later, Hans Riegel married his wife named Gertrud and she became the first member of staff in the young and blossoming company!
