Maintain Your Duracell Automotive Battery

Purchasing a Duracell car battery is the first step towards long-lasting performance, but to ensure maximum battery life, you should follow these instructions:

Keep the battery surfaces clean and dry. Check the acid levels regularly. If necessary, top them off with desalinated or distilled water (never with acid). If the battery loses substantial water, have an expert check the voltage regulator. Refrain from putting any additives into the battery acid. Check the level of battery charge by means of acid density or open-circuit voltage measurement. Recharge the battery if the acid density is below 1.24 or 12,50V kg/l.

Jump Starts

Even when using the best automotive battery, if you don't replace it frequently enough, or if your vehicle has an issue that causes it to drain the battery, you might find yourself in the position of needing a jump start. Before beginning, remember that it's possible for starting assistance from vehicle to vehicle to lead to voltage peaks during disconnection, which could damage one or both vehicle's electronic systems. Following these tips when using the Duracell Automotive Battery—or any car battery—can help avoid damage to the vehicles.

Always use standardized start cables when giving starting assistance. Follow the instructions that come with your starter cables. Only connect automotive batteries with the same voltage. Make sure both vehicles are switched off when connecting the terminals. First, connect the two positive terminals. Then connect the negative terminal of the assisting vehicle with the blank metallic point on the vehicle needing assistance, away from the battery. Next, start the vehicle that needs assistance for a maximum of 15 seconds. Do not start the vehicle that is providing assistance. Finally, when disconnecting the terminals, remove the cables in reverse sequence from the way they were connected.
