About this item

Experience a true taste of the tropics with Mauna Loa® Dry Roasted Macadamias (25 oz.).

What Is Mauna Loa?

The "Mauna Loa" in Mauna Loa Dry Roasted Macadamias is derived from the Mauna Loa volcano on the big island of Hawai'i. The volcano is widely considered the largest land volcano on Earth. The volcano is still active but does not have explosive eruptions. Instead, the volcano secretes nonviolent lava flows.

A History of Mauna Loa Dry Roasted Macadamias

In 1881, the first macadamia tree was brought to Hawai'i. The tree was able to thrive in the tropical climate and soil, and the first plantation producing organic macadamia nuts was formed in 1921. By 1949, the original Mauna Loa plantation was established. Macadamia trees take at least 7 years to produce the nuts and take around 15 years to really start producing quality, organic macadamia nuts. In the 1980s, Mauna Loa began studying different methods to crack macadamia nuts, as they are the hardest nuts in the world to crack. Today, Mauna Loa Dry Roasted Macadamias are experienced and enjoyed around the world.

What Are Macadamia Nuts?

The trees that produce the nuts for Mauna Loa macadamia nuts are actually native to Australia. The macadamia trees can grow upwards of 40 feet tall and wide. Roasted macadamia nuts are some of the most sought after nuts in the world. The nuts are harvested after they fall off of the trees.
