Our shredder had its last day back in the spring 2014, I purchased a different brand from an office supply store, shredded 10 sheets or less, it quit. I was shopping at Sam's around June/July and found this Royal 1600XM, well WORTH the price. I have since shredded my pile that had accumulated since late March and my yearly file purging.I like the speed and the fact it shreds cards and disks without blinking. I rarely do more than 6-8 min continuous use but it is nice to know if I need it the capability is there to do it. I like this machine, my only complaint is when the bin is full and ready to open, it seems there should be a button to release the bin but you just have to pull very hard, this was scary at first since I had finally found one that works I did not want to break it. Also it is tricky to empty w/o making a mess because of the design of the waste bin, but having read other reviews I will try the large trash bag approach. I would still make the purchase for as dependable machine as it is.

I was replacing a shredder that didn't seem to work anymore and was several years old. I was expecting a slick new shredder with some improvements. First, there were very few instructions as to how to feed and how to empty and what to put in and what not to put in. I filled the bin very quickly, it seemed to me. It does have a Stop light and mechanism on it when "full"; not exactly. Then I had to get the grindings out: good luck! Tried to put a trash liner in it as my old one; it went on but when taken out, it had fallen on one side and torn on the other! So, tried to suspend plastic trash liner on something else and pour the contents into it; lots of confetti! There is a LOT of improvements that could be made.
